Trevor Aaronson is a freelance journalist and 2009/2010 Carnegie Legal Reporting Fellow. In 2009, he reported in rural India on a grant from the Fund for Investigative Journalism and contributed to a nationwide investigation of domestic surveillance funded by Atlantic Philanthropies. Prior to this, Aaronson was an investigative reporter and projects editor for The Commercial Appeal, the daily newspaper in Memphis, Tenn. His stories for The Commercial Appeal ranged from investigations of local government to reporting in Asia, Africa and South America. The Florida native has won more than two dozen national and regional awards for his work, including from the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists and other promoters of high journalistic standards. In addition, Aaronson was a finalist for the 2005 Livingston Awards for Young Journalists for a series about corruption at the Hollywood (Fla.) Police Department that led to federal indictments and convictions of four high-ranking officers. Previously, Aaronson was an investigative reporter for Village Voice Media's newspapers in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
